Third Week of Development!
Step into the arcade!
Marsescent: Dragon’s Lair is about an old detective on a case where 5 children have gone missing in an arcade. He has to navigate his way through the strange arcade with only one of the employees helping guide him through and giving out information. Eventually, his search leads him to the basement, where he must play through one of the VR games stashed away and defeat the creature that’s taken hold of it.
Welcome into our Third build release!
To give you some context, our studio was created for our college's Game Simulation class where we have ONE semester to create an entire game! This is our third week of working and we are still going strong! Let’s take a look into our week:
On the programming side…
The programmers have made some excellent progress! Scripts have been cleaned up and combined into one, traps for the platforming section are being started on and tested, and enemy UI has been added as well! The camera, however, has still been a problem. Both professors agree that it moves too fast, so they’re still trying to find the best way to go about it. The platforming section’s platforms are also causing some problems. Testing out different ways to flavor the platforms has revealed options we definitely should not put into the game…
On the art side…
The artists have started the long journey to texturing all the objects! The game has a black and white aesthetic, so it may seem simpler, but they won’t know how well the textures mesh together till more objects are textured. They also set up colliders for the cloth simulation for our main character, so he can have a cool swishing coat. More crucial models are continuing their sculpting and then rigging process. Exporting is still a major issue unfortunately: multiple objects being nested into one, pivots still being in the wrong spot, and textures not coming through…
What’s next?
For the programmers, they’re going to continue to fix up that camera, and hopefully find something everyone can play. They’re also going to change the platforms, work on the inventory, and import more models to replace the placeholder ones we have.
For the artists, they’re going to continue texturing! As well as modeling more important characters, rigging, and fixing models that are broken.
In Conclusion…
Admittedly, things have slowed down a bit… but a call out from our professors of this fact has lit a fire underneath our butts, and we will get back to churning out completed tasks in no time! Trying to balance getting work done, and not burning yourself out is harder than you’d think!
If you’ve read this far, why not follow us here, twitter, and instagram! We will post a devlog once a week describing the what happenings of the past couple days.
Thanks for tuning in, and here’s to more updates,
