Seventh Week of Development!

Step into the arcade!

Marsescent: Dragon’s Lair is about Owen Stone, old detective on a case where 5 children have gone missing in an arcade. He has to navigate his way through the strange arcade with only one of the employees helping guide him through and giving out information. Eventually, his search leads him to the basement, where he must play through one of the VR games stashed away and defeat the creature that’s taken hold of it.

Welcome into our seventh build release!

To give you some context, our studio was created for our college's Game Simulation class where we have ONE semester to create an entire game! This is our seventh week of working and we are still going strong! Let’s take a look into our week:

On the programming side…

The programmers changed the platforming section back to its original state, added in a ton of assets, and finally added another minigame that has been in the works behind the scenes. They’ve also added in a lot of cute little sound effects and the storyboards for our cutscene.

Here is a direct quote that has been requested to be put into this devlog, “Lead level designer hates cameras and programming jumps with a fiery heart”.

On the art side…

The artists have been texturing, animating, and modeling things to fill out the world. Trying to make everything look like it belongs together is a little difficult, but I believe it's going well.  One of our artists created a beautiful rig, but when the animator tried to animate it, the model was incapable of being animated!

What’s next?

One of the biggest things is that a few of the team members are going to go in and get some voice lines recorded. There’s been a lot of trouble with the punctuation and spelling, so hopefully having a dedicated script will help!

For the programmers, they’re gonna finish up the air hockey mini game, as well as add more assets. They’re also going to tweak areas that are having issues: platforms, cameras, etc.

For the artists, they’re going to get some more animations done, as well as modeling and texturing.

In Conclusion…

A good amount was done this week, but we could always be doing more! Time is almost up, so we have to keep trying our best!

If you’ve read this far, why not follow us here, twitter, and instagram! We will post a devlog once a week describing the what happenings of the past couple days.

Thanks for tuning in, and here’s to more updates,

RetroCyber Studios (PS: Our team isn’t the only team in our class! Check out the other team’s game here )
