Fourth Week of Development!

Step into the arcade!

Marsescent: Dragon’s Lair is about an old detective on a case where 5 children have gone missing in an arcade. He has to navigate his way through the strange arcade with only one of the employees helping guide him through and giving out information. Eventually, his search leads him to the basement, where he must play through one of the VR games stashed away and defeat the creature that’s taken hold of it.

Welcome into our Fourth build release!

To give you some context, our studio was created for our college's Game Simulation class where we have ONE semester to create an entire game! This is our fourth week of working and we are still going strong! Let’s take a look into our week:

On the programming side…

The programmers got a lot of stuff done this week! The main things that were heavily improved upon was the camera and the dialogue! The camera is still a bit finicky, but a major improvement to some iterations we’ve had. There’s only a few places where you can get yourself motion sick now! Story wise, they’ve implemented the first bit of dialogue, and a couple of objectives. They also gave the arcade a makeover; changing the layout of it. However, there have been issues with the ui. In a lot of areas, the text appears off of where it’s supposed to be.

On the art side…

The artists have been working on the ui, textures, and animations! A lot of the ui art has been drawn and implemented, but things keep popping up that they need to draw! In the fantasy world, a lot of textures were added, but our professors commented that they didn’t really fit the theme, so they’ll be placeholder till we can get something better in! A few models were also ready to finally animate, so a couple of things have some cool animations (though they’re not implemented yet). There has been a ton of work done, but there’s still a ton more to do!

What’s next?

For the programmers, they’re going to keep working at that camera, as well as fixing up all their minigames, and cleaning up the ui.

For the artists, they’re going to work on making some more detailed platforms for the platformer bit, as well as continuing to texture, and trying to get some more animations done.

In Conclusion…

This is our last week before midterms, and our professors have requested that by the next release date we need to have a “proper” alpha build. It’s really intimidating, but we have faith we can bump up our work even more than we have. There’s a lot to do, so I hope I can survive to write the next devlog!
