First Week of Development!

Step into the arcade!

Marsescent: Dragon’s Lair is about an old detective on a case where 5 children have gone missing in an arcade. He has to navigate his way through the strange arcade with only one of the employees helping guide him through and giving out information. Eventually, his search leads him to the basement, where he must play through one of the VR games stashed away and defeat the creature that’s taken hold of it.

Welcome into our first build release, and our first week of production!

To give you some context, our studio was created for our college's Game Simulation class where we have ONE semester to create an entire game! One week ago we had all pitched our ideas for games, and this is the one we voted for! For a lot of us, this is our first time messing with unity, modeling, and level designing for an actual game. Our first week was pretty hectic, so here’s a couple things that happened:

On the programming side…

We had a lot of the basics done! Menus have been started…. Levels have been greyboxed. The main achievement has been the character movement! There’s still been some problems with the jumping, so they’ve been working on that.

On the art side…

We’ve had a ton of concept art being pushed out, with no end in sight. Modeling has also been… going… With the 3D stuff, we have a great amount of beautiful models, but importing them into unity has revealed we have a SIZING ISSUE! So there’s been a lot of meetings on how to properly make and export all of our models. On the 2D side, things have been going a lot smoother. We’ve got a little filler stuff done to make our world feel more alive.

What’s next?

For the programmers, they’re hoping to get some enemy movement programmed, get an inventory up and working, and possibly add some obstacles and enemies into the 2d section.

For the artists, it’s more modeling, concept art, and possibly starting some textures!

In Conclusion…

We’ve had a blast working on our project, and are looking forward to the many, many more problems that will arise during our journey!

If you’ve read this far, why not follow us here, twitter, and instagram! We will post a devlog once a week describing the what happenings of the past couple days.

Thanks for tuning, and here’s to more updates,
